Suicide is not a decision, it's the outcome of a process." Usually, the warning signs that should be evident to others around the child are constant sad mood, sleeplessness or sleepiness, loss of energy, changes in eating patterns, increased irritability and anger, decreased concentration, withdrawal, , loss of interest in activities etc. They may experience hopelessness, worthless, purposelessness, guilt, a sense of being trapped, and get other negative thoughts. However, at times, the signs may be very explicit, such as writing death notes, making arrangements for their funeral, talking constantly of dying, having a history of previous suicide attempts, making statements or threats about dying.

The approach to addressing these concerns should be holistic, comprehensive, and have short term as well as long term goals  to curb the issues contributing to thoughts if self harm. But are parents the only ones here? Many stakeholders are responsible, such as the child himself/herself, parents, mental health professionals, teachers, the school, guardians, friends, people around the child.
