Fun fact about me: I wake up at 3am everyday. During less busy days, I walk outside with my son and one of our dogs. I need to walk, my son needs to walk, even our pet Whisper certainly needs her daily exercise.

While walking, my kid couldn't stop looking up at the tall buildings. Where we live, skyscrapers seem to be endless. He then exclaimed, “I’m so tiny. You’re so tiny. Whisper is tiny.”

“We’re like ants for some aunty looking outside of her window.”

My heart was smiling because the little boy spoke his truth again. It’s exactly how I feel during a hike while I look up at the high trees and mountains around me.

Clients sometimes wonder why an activity as mundane as walking outside is even suggested during therapy. Aside from its physical benefits, walking, going for a run and cycling in nature or in your busy city helps you forget everything for a while. It inspires this strange yet positive feeling of smallness.

Suddenly, I realize I’m just a speck of dust in this universe; therefore, there are bigger things outside of myself and my problems. It’s always comforting. Feeling small never felt so good.
