Acute cases are those that have rapid onset and usually has short duration of suffering.

Acute cases are best described by the term HAVOC - everything happens so suddenly that the patient takes time to understand what exactly did happen.

Homoeopathy is the science that is based not on the specific name of the disease but on the symptoms from which the patient is suffering.

As we already know acute diseases have rapid onset and progress, symptoms keep on changing constantly. So as symptoms change their direction so does the homoeopathy medicines.

Let us take an example: a person is suffering from thick discharge from the nose, tickling sensation in throat and a severe cough that is not expelled out no matter how much ever she tries to. When she comes with these symptoms she receives one medicine. Next day she comes with a fever, cough getting expelled and nasal discharge has become watery. So now as anyone can easily make out, the symptoms have changed their direction, and hence the same medicine shall not be prescribed again. Since symptoms have changed so does the prescription.

As the father of medicine Hippocrates said, “It is more important to know what sort of a person has a disease than to know what sort of disease a person has.” Here he is keen on individualizing each and every case of a disease. And this is exactly the most important pillar on which homoeopathy stand firmly.

It is important to find out what are the features that differentiate two individuals suffering from the same disease. Every human being is unique and so are their features and characteristics, not just in health but also in disease.

A frequent change in remedy is required especially in acute cases because symptoms also change frequently in these cases.
