Narcissistic abuse is a subtle yet deeply damaging form of emotional manipulation. What often begins with affection, admiration, and idealization slowly shifts into control, criticism, and degradation — and the cycle keeps repeating. Finally discarding when the victim is perceived as of no use. (Gupta, 2025)

Common signs of narcissistic abuse include isolation, constant blame-shifting, silent treatment, ongoing criticism disguised as feedback, gaslighting, emotional withdrawal, and the feeling that no matter what you do, it’s never enough. Victims may feel they must “earn” love, apologize excessively, or hide their true feelings to avoid conflict. (Elise, 2019)

Over time, victims may start doubting their worth and even their perception of reality, severely affecting their emotional well-being. (Elise, 2019) People with low self-worth, unresolved trauma, or a strong desire for approval are particularly vulnerable, as narcissists often target those who can be manipulated through guilt or fear of rejection.

If you recognize these patterns in your relationship, professional counselling can help. At The Mind Care, we support individuals in identifying manipulation patterns, processing emotional trauma, rebuilding confidence, and setting healthy boundaries through an integrative holistic approach.

Healing begins when you learn to separate your self-worth from the abuser’s control and reclaim your inner strength. If these signs feel familiar, remember — you deserve safety and support. Recovery is possible, and it begins with awareness and self-compassion.
