Brushing Techniques
Before understanding of the brushing techniques you have follow few things such as:
- Choose your brushing equipment wisely- Your tooth brush should contain soft bristles to avoid damage to your gums and enamel of your tooth.
- Use soft or medium bristle tooth brush, with American Dental Association approval. Change your tooth brush in every 3 months to prevent deposition of bacteria and damage of the tooth bristles.
- Brush twice daily- You should brush your teeth twice daily first when you wake up and second before going to bed. It is better to brush your teeth when you eat some sticky food, as it will remove the debris and sugar from your teeth immediately.
- Brush only for two minutes: Thorough cleaning of the tooth only needs two minutes, if you are spending less than two minutes in brushing then your teeth will not be cleaned properly. Set a timer on your phone before you start brushing.
- Gently brush your teeth- Be very gentle while brushing your teeth because vigorous brushing will result in enamel loss. Gently brushing your teeth will not cause any damage to teeth
Steps of tooth brushing:·
- Use the bristles at an angle of 45 degree to the long axis of the tooth, tooth bristles should be placed parallel to the tooth.
- Brush the outer surface of the tooth using short, vibratory, back and rotational motion.
- Use short and vibratory stroke tip of the bristle should stay in one place. Use 15-20 tiny strokes gently with this.
- In front side of the tooth the bristles should be tilted vertically with up and down strokes. For brushing occlusal (biting) surface use gentle back and forth motion, brush from back to front to remove odor producing bacteria.
