Today, on Rare Disease Day, we raise awareness and advocate for improved access to treatment and support for those living with these conditions and their families. 1. 300 million people worldwide are affected.
2. 70% of these diseases begin in childhood.
3. Over 6,000 different rare diseases have been identified.
4. 72% of rare diseases have a genetic basis.5. 1 in 5 cancers are classified as rare.
