As of May 2026, over 50 global organisation (including Endocrine Society and Lancet) have officially transitioned from the name PCOS to PMOS.
PMOS, Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome name change is done with the intention to provide a holistic, integrated approach to handle the disease PCOS(now PMOS).
PCOS(PMOS) is not a single disease, but a clinical spectrum of symptoms appearing due a system wide hormonal imbalance with inflammation. To understand this disease it is important to understand the Insulin-Androgen connection, adipose tissue dysfunction and long term metabolic risks due to inflammation.
We aim to restore the conversation between the brain and ovaries.
Here's to hoping this name change doesnt remain a symbolic step, but actually helps the world understand the disease better, reduce the stigma and provide a more personalised care to all women suffering from it. -Dr Bhanvi Pandey
