  • Radiation Exposure
  • Age, Family History
  • Obesity
  • Genetic syndromes

TYPES of thyroid cancer: 

  • Well Differentiated Thyroid Cancers which includes Papillary Thyroid Cancer &; Follicular thyroid Cancer
  • Medullary Thyroid Cancer
  • Anaplastic Carcinoma
  • Lymphoma

SYMPTOMS of thyroid cancer includes:

  •  Swelling
  •  Change of voice
  • Difficult breathing
  •  Difficult Swallowing

INVESTIGATIONS: 

  • Blood Tests includes thyroid function tests, tumor markers includes thyroglobulin, calcitonin, CEA
  • Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology
  • Ultrasound
  • CT Scan/ MRI/ PET CECT as per requirements

TREATMENT: 

  • Surgery which is main treatment. 
    • Total Thyroidectomy - Most Commonly Thyroid Gland is completely removed 
    • Lobectomy:  in low risk only diseased lobe can be removed preserving the healthy lobe.
  • Other Treatment Options Includes: Radioiodine Treatment, Radiation, Chemotherapy, Targeted Therapy
