Hepatitis in Children: What Parents Should Know

Hepatitis refers to inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by viral infections (Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E). In children, it is important to recognize early signs and seek medical attention promptly.

Common Causes in Children:

Hepatitis A & E: Usually spread through contaminated food or water.

Hepatitis B & C: Spread through infected blood, unsafe injections, or from mother to child during birth.

Symptoms:

Jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin)

Dark urine, pale stools

Fatigue, loss of appetite

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain

Fever (in some cases)

Why It Matters:

Untreated hepatitis can lead to liver damage. 

Prevention:

Ensure safe drinking water and proper hand hygiene.Avoid eating roadside food and water

Vaccination: Safe and effective vaccines are available for Hepatitis A and hepatitis B
