1. Make"stay home when unwell" genuinely safe. Fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, a runny nose:if people fear losing pay or being judged, they come in sick and the wholefloor pays for it. A clear, visible, no-penalty message works better than anyposter.2. Discourageself-medicating with antibiotics. Fluis a viral illness. Antibiotics do not treat it, and taking them unnecessarilycauses harm. Encourage people to see a doctor, and to get tested when thedoctor advises.3. Knowthe red flags. Breathlessness, chest pain orpressure, a fever that will not settle, confusion, unusual drowsiness or bluishlips need urgent medical care. Higher-risk staff (pregnancy, diabetes, heart orlung disease, age 60 and above) should be encouraged to seek advice early, andto ask their doctor about seasonal flu vaccination.4. Keepthe basics going. Ventilation, hand hygiene, cough etiquette, wiping shared surfaces, and fewer crowded closed-door meetingswhen people are unwell.5. Giveone reliable contact. Tell staff who to call andwhere to get tested, so they don't rely on forwarded messages. If your team would like a short, practical session on seasonal flu and workplace health, I'm glad to run one, onsite or online.Generalinformation, not medical advice.
