Fever is one of the most common reasons parents panic, but fever itself is not a disease. It is usually a sign that the body is fighting an infection.

Most viral fevers improve within 3–5 days with proper fluids, rest, and fever medicines advised by your pediatrician.

Parents should seek urgent medical attention if:

  • Child is breathing fast
  • Child is unusually sleepy or difficult to wake
  • Repeated vomiting occurs
  • Fits/seizures happen
  • Baby below 3 months develops fever
  • Child refuses all feeds or water
  • Lips become bluish

Many parents worry because temperature rises again after medicine. This can happen in viral illnesses and does not always mean the condition is serious.

Avoid self-starting antibiotics without medical advice. Most childhood fevers are viral and do not need antibiotics.

Early evaluation by a pediatrician helps identify warning signs and prevents complications.
