The COVID 19 pandemic has wreaked havoc all over the world. The second wave has led to enormous case loads. Vaccines currently approved by the ICMR in India are effective in preventing severe COVID Disease and in reducing hospitalization. However safety measures such as wearing a mask and social distancing still have to be followed even after being vaccinated.
Patients with Rheumatic conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Psoriatic Arthritis, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus should take the vaccine after consulting with their Rheumatologist. There are specific guidelines regarding these conditions as well the medications which patients may be taking. Certain medications need to be withheld or doses reduced, but this can only be done under medical supervision.
