On 26 Nov 2021 WHO designated a variant (B.1.1.529) Omicron. First detected in South Africa.
The WHO and others have suggested that the highly infectious variant may cause less severe disease than the Delta strain. This information is still under investigation Omicron spreads more easily than the original virus /delta virus. people above 65 years of age, those with comorbidities, and those who are immuno-compromised may be at higher risk for severe disease.
What are the symptoms?
- Sore throat
- Running nose
- Nose block
- Fatigue
- Fever
- Sheivering
- Loss of smell.
- Headache
- Body pain
- Nausea /vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Difficulty in breathing.
How many days do symptoms remain.?
Omicron is milder than novel coronavirus, symptoms last for 3-7 days or even less.
Which test to do to confirm covid infection?
RT-PCR, True-NAAT, Rapid Antigen (can do at home).
When to visit a doctor/hospital?
- If you have a high-grade fever (>100 F ) not decrease after taking medicine.
- If you are spo2 is less than 95%.
Can vaccinated people be reinfected with covid?
Yes. An effect of vaccines can decreased with time. So booster dose is a must to reduce the risk of hospitalizations.
Can children be infected with covid?
Yes. Childrens are also at higher risk of infection. As there is no vaccine for them yet.
What precautions to take?
- Get vaccinated with a booster dose.
