It is essential for every individual to understand the importance of rights to which patients are entitled to as recipients of medical care .The patients have a right to-

  1. Know the name of the physician who is responsible for patient care.
  2. To receive information about the illness ,treatment and to have any questions answered.
  3. To receive high quality care appropriate to the patient's need and consistent within the scope of the hospital.
  4. To be informed about the untoward effects of the medications and any unanticipated outcomes and complications.
  5. To be provided with privacy and confidentiality during examination and treatment.
  6. To receive counselling regarding the estimated cost of treatment.
  7. To have a second opinion regarding the diagnosis and treatment plan.
  8. Not to be included in any medical research without prior information and consent.
  9. To sign consent form of anaesthesia ,surgery and invasive procedures after receiving complete information from the treating doctor.
  10. To refuse a recommended treatment to the extent permitted by law,and to be informed about the medical consequences of the refusal.
