GOOD ORAL HEALTH = GOOD IMMUNITY

The mouth is the “gateway” to the rest of the body and has a huge connection to our overall health. If our immune system is suppressed due to a sickness or health condition, then it’s not working at full capacity in other areas. So, if we neglect our oral health, it could cause our immune system to give more attention to the dental issue allowing other illnesses the opportunity to arise elsewhere. Just as washing our hands keeps bacteria at bay, so does brushing and flossing. Usually, we do not have enough time to properly take care of ourselves, especially our oral hygiene during the hustle and bustle of life. But during this time, we can make sure to overcome all missed opportunities and achieve the best possible dental health.

1)  BRUSH YOUR TEETH TWICE AND FLOSS ONCE EACH DAY:

Be sure to brush your teeth a minimum of twice each day and floss between the teeth at least once each day. Polish your skills of brushing. The way you brush your teeth makes all the difference. Change your toothbrush or toothbrush head every three to six months. If you do get sick, you should always change your toothbrush and start with a fresh one. 

2) CLEAN YOUR  TOOTHBRUSH:

Viruses can attach to the plastic, soft bristles, and other components of a toothbrush. Therefore, it’s best to clean toothbrushes on a regular basis. A good soak in mouthwash combined with a bit of hydrogen peroxide, followed by a thorough rinse under tap water, can help maintain a clean toothbrush. To recap, at a minimum, your routine would look like this: brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss, use a fluoride mouthwash once a day, and brush your tongue daily. Good oral care habits should be complemented by good hydration and dietary habits. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and try to minimize the consumption of food items that contain high levels of starch and sugar. 

3) LESSEN YOUR SUGAR INTAKE:

Sugar is extensively found in natural foods including fruits but these are less likely to cause tooth decay than added sugar. 

4) CHILDREN NEED SPECIAL ATTENTION:

This is the best time to instill good habits among children who should be taught correctly about dietary and oral hygiene measures. Since they are completely under parental watch during these days, keep a brush handy and help them with brushing so that they get the technique right.  

5) DON’T BELIEVE IN MYTHS:

In case anybody suffers from a sudden case of toothache, never ever place a hot compress on your face. Never put the clove or alum directly on the gums. This will cause a burn. Consult your dentist to avoid any complications.
