A Message from Dr. Sayuj Krishnan, Consultant Neurosurgeon
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Greetings on this significant day when we unite to commemorate International Spinal Cord Injury Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the challenges faced by individuals living with spinal cord injuries (SCI). It is with great pride and responsibility that I stand before you as a Consultant Neurosurgeon. Together, let us delve into this year's theme: "Access to SCI Services; a Life Less Complicated".
Harnessing the Power of International Days
International days serve as potent tools to amplify public awareness and activate authorities to address pressing concerns. Since 2016, the International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) has fervently observed Spinal Cord Injury Day on September 5th annually. With each passing year, we channel our collective energy to celebrate this day under unique slogans and themes that resonate with the evolving challenges faced by SCI individuals.
Theme Spotlight: "Access to SCI Services; a Life Less Complicated"
In 2023, our focus sharpens on the theme "Access to SCI Services; a Life Less Complicated". The significance of accessible and comprehensive services for individuals with SCI cannot be overstated. Their journey to reclaim a fulfilling life hinges on the support and resources they receive, and we are dedicated to ensuring that access to these services becomes simpler, regardless of barriers.
Addressing Complications in Access
Accessing SCI services can be a complex endeavor influenced by several factors. Lack of resources, geographic limitations, financial constraints, and limited awareness often compound the challenges SCI individuals and their families face. Our goal is to alleviate these complexities, striving to simplify the path to services that empower them to overcome obstacles and thrive.
Collaboration for Change
United by the vision of a better tomorrow for SCI individuals, let us collaborate across professions, organizations, and geographical borders. By amplifying awareness, advocating for policy changes, and fostering partnerships, we can make significant strides towards ensuring that accessing SCI services is no longer an arduous journey.
Your Role in Creating Change
As members of the medical community, our influence extends beyond the operating room. Through sharing knowledge, offering support, and participating in discussions, we have the power to shape the future for SCI individuals. Let us use our voices to drive change, ensuring that every individual with an SCI can access services that enhance their well-being.
A Call to Action
On this Spinal Cord Injury Day, I implore you to join us in our mission. Share your stories, raise your voices, and champion the cause of accessible SCI services. Together, we can make strides towards simplifying lives and creating a world where SCI individuals find the support they rightfully deserve.
Thank you for your unwavering commitment to this cause. Your dedication lights the path toward a life less complicated for SCI individuals.
Warm regards,
Dr. Sayuj Krishnan. S
