If you think wellness is expensive in terms of money and time, then try illness, you will get to know how easy and inexpensive is living healthy, so make it a habit before it's too late!
Here are some tips:
Power walks If the benefits of walks could be captured in a pill, it would have been the hottest selling pill ever. Walks do not need any certification or prescription, while drugs need to be tested and approved by a medical officer and prescribed by a doctor. Walking has no negative effects while drugs have many side effects. Still, we wait for the doctor to prescribe us a daily walk, then only we are able to think of this inexpensive way towards well-being.
Time Management A crucial and inexpensive tool. Plan your day in advance with a to-do list so that you have enough time left for your brisk walk or for cooking your meals. As they say, either you run the day, or the day runs you.
Reduce stress Not with anti-anxiety pills, but with changes to your lifestyle. Try to be physically active, exercising in any way. It doesn't require subscriptions at gyms or signing up for aerobics, Zumba, etc. Take a walk or swim, dance or play football, any activity that you enjoy. By doing this, your body releases mood boosting chemicals called endorphins. This not only helps you de-stress, it also protects against heart disease by lowering your blood pressure, strengthening your heart muscle and helping you maintain a healthy weight. Take an internet and social media break by avoiding emails, whatsapp, TV news, Facebook, Instagram. It is impossible to escape stress when it follows you everywhere with all this negativity. Take time each day for yourself — even if it's just for 30 minutes — to escape from the world.
Increase your happiness You can do this right away by hugging someone you care about. Dress to impress yourself, not anybody else or to get compliments. When you look good, you feel good. So always keep smiling. Smile when you are walking. Smile when you are talking, wear a smile all day. Aristotle said, "Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence". Avoid negative, fake, or envious people, people who don't want to see you happy. In a month you will lose five kg of anxiety and earn five kg of happiness.
Get some sunlight Step out of your office or air-conditioned rooms for 20 minutes between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to get direct sunlight for vitamin D synthesis. Note that you should not be wearing a sunscreen. This small break from work will not only help you with your vitamin D requirement but help relax your neck and back muscles. Chatting with your colleagues during this time will also help you de-stress, build better relations.
Enjoy mealtimes Eating should be relaxing and soothing for our souls. During mealtimes, avoid arguing, watching television, surfing mobile phones or working on your laptop.Drink lots and lots of water But it should not be not cold or chilled in the fridge. Buy a matka or a surahi, which only costs around Rs.100-150. It’s a very healthy way of storing and cooling drinking water, helps improve gut-health and metabolism and is gentle on the throat, environment-friendly as well as pocket friendly.
Bring Nature into your homePlant flowers, shrubs and trees. Have a kitchen garden if possible. Decorate your dining table with fresh produce and feel the difference. Nature de-stresses, brings positivity, prosperity and good health. Keep the fridge full of fresh fruits and salads. The more accessible they are, the more likely that you pick them often. On the other hand, keep all expensive, calorie-dense foods like cookies, muffins, cakes, pastries, chocolates, crispies, namkeens available to the minimum and farthest away from reach.
LaughLaughter is the best medicine that is totally free. Keep all your inhibitions aside and laugh to the fullest.
Engage kids in kitchen affairsLet them segregate, rinse, chop, stir, serve. Let them know different ingredients, cooking methods. Let them lay the dining table, know the health benefits of home cooked food and also the advantages of family bonding when cooking together. All these learnings are not given in any school, and don’t require special coaching classes. You can teach them for free, whether boys or girls.
In short…People say they don't have time to even go for a walk. People say they don't have time to cook at home. People say they don't have time to sleep for seven hours. People say healthy stuff is expensive. People say preventive tests and dietitian's fees are high. People say…. They say many things, but let me tell you, all the above is nothing compared to the money and time you would spend on curing illness.
Your doctor should be the second most important person taking care of your health. You are the first.
Finally, do what makes you happy; be with those who make you smile; laugh as much as you breathe and love as long as you live.
