WHAT IS GLUTATHIONE?
Glutathione is an anti-oxidant, primarily made of 3 amino acids namely cystine, glycine and glutamic acid. It is found in all living cells. The liver, kidney, spleen, pancreas, lens and cornea have the highest concentration in the body. It is produced by the liver. It plays a important role in protection of proteins, protects integrity of red blood cells and DNA repair. It aids in the battle against free radicals and one of the most potent anti-viral agents known.
Glutathione also aids in nutritional breakdown and controlling critical functions such as the immunological response. It is safe for everyone, no matter the age.
Glutathione is available to be taken orally, topical, intravenous and sublingual.
- SOURCES OF GLUTATHIONE-
1. Plant sources-
It is found in variety of fruits, vegetables and meats. Food rich in glutathione include asparagus, spinach, avocado, garlic, potatoes, zucchini, melons, grapefruit, strawberries and peaches.
In order to receive the most glutathione from fruits and vegetables it is important to consume them fresh, not cooked or processed.
2. Animal sources-
It is found in high amounts in fresh uncooked meats and in moderate amounts in dairy products and eggs. Cooking and prolonged storage reduces glutathione content of these foods.
3. Indirect sources-
Selenium is an important co-factor enzyme form of glutathione and necessary for formation of glutathione. food rich in selenium are cereals, oats, brazil nuts, tuna, legumes, beef, cheese, eggs, etc.
