Myth 1 - Period blood is impure
Fact - Blood flow during periods is not impure or dirty. It is the same blood that is circulating all over your body. The menstrual flow is just a mixture of blood and tissue that was not utilized to nourish the fetus, so your body gets rid of it every month.
Myth 2 - You cannot become pregnant during the menstrual cycle
Fact - You can get pregnant during periods however, the chances are less. Every woman has a different cycle and ovulation pattern. You may have a huge chance of conceiving if you have a short menstrual cycle. If you have sex during the end of a six-day long period, followed by ovulation, you can get pregnant as sperm can survive for seven days. Don’t base your family planning on this myth!
Myth 3 - You cannot participate in physical activity while you are on your period
Fact - There is no science-backed proof that exercise or any physical activity is harmful during periods. In fact, participating in physical activities helps to ease out your symptoms such as menstrual cramps and pain. However, make sure to avoid high-intensity workouts as they drain your energy and cause fatigue.
Myth 4 - Touching food and pickles during periods can spoil them
Fact - There is no scientifically proven evidence that food and pickles can get degraded if touched during periods. You can prepare and handle food and pickles just like other days as long as general hygiene measures are taken care of.
Myth 5 - Tampon takes away your virginity
Fact - Yes, tampons may break the hymen in some cases. But, do not confuse breaking of hymen with losing virginity, because virgins are those who never had a sexual relationship with anyone. So, yes! You can use a tampon because it will not affect your virginity.
