The triceps is the muscle behind the back ofthe arm and its tendon attaches to the bone prominence at the end of yourelbow, as you extend your elbow it is the triceps muscle and tendon you areworking here.
People can develop triceps tendonitis and lesslikely but possibly a triceps tendon rupture although this is less common.
Triceps tendon rupture would most commonlyoccur in a trauma event such as a rapid extension of the elbow specificallywith a fall, where the tendon can rupture and be pulled off the bone. If thisoccurs you may have a divot or bump in the elbow, you would have extremedifficulty extending the elbow. If you feel you may have this need to besurgically repaired before it develops a chronic condition that cannot berepaired. So if you had trauma and inability to extend your arm specifically ifthere’s a divot at the elbow, please seek out medical attention to verify andproperly diagnose your condition.
More common would be triceps tendonitis wherethis tendon or muscles attached to the bone becomes painful, inflamed, orirritated. This could be if you are a weight lifter, or bodybuilder this couldbe if you are doing any repetitive activity. If you feel you may have this avariety of treatment options could be adequate for you.
