Many of you may be searching for natural ways of contraception as you might think that they are effective to some extent, however peeing after sex to push sperm out of your vagina is a misconception.

So, why is it a misconception?

Peeing after sex will not flush out sperm because both have different routes of passage. Urine is released out of your body through an opening known as the urethra and sperm is ejaculated into the vaginal canal.

Why during peeing some white fluid leaks out after sex?

This is because when you pass the urine it creates some pressure in the vaginal canal that forces a white fluid (which is a mixture of cervical mucus and semen) to be pushed out of the body.

Even though some semen flows out, however, there is still a lot remaining in the vaginal canal to fertilize the ovum.

Remember a single sperm carries the strength to fertilize the egg and increases the chances of pregnancy.

How can peeing after sex can help you?

While peeing after sex does not prevent you from getting pregnant, it may protect you from urinary tract infections (UTIs). It reduces the risk of infection as peeing flushes out any bacteria that might have been introduced into the urethra during sexual intercourse.

Women are more prone to UTIs because the urethra is shorter and closer to the anus. This makes bacteria easily enter the urinary tract and cause infection.

There are many effective ways of contraception like female condoms, contraceptive patches, implants, and pills. Instead of relying upon myths, reach out to your doctor to find ways suitable for you.
