Viral infections aren’t done ‘going viral’ yet and it seems like COVID is here for a long-stay. India has been witnessing a steep rise in the COVID cases. Several states across the country have made wearing masks in public a compulsion and yet again the health bodies are issuing statements of vigilance against COVID.
We have come a long way from not knowing what is COVID to how to deal with it. We have survived the unprecedented measures such as lockdowns and also sailed through the devastating first and second wave of COVID that caused a mayhem across the country. By now we all know that stopping the spread of infection and preventing ourselves from getting exposed or contacting the infection is the best way to counter COVID.
As on 10th and 11th April, the Government of India and Health Ministry have called for a nation-wide mock-drill to assess the hospital preparedness to address the rising COVID cases in which both public and private facilities are expected to participate. While government and healthcare facilities are doing their best, it is time for us ‘general public’ to pull up our socks, get more vigilant, and do our bit in the fight against COVID, by:
- Getting the booster dose vaccination (if not yet taken)
- Wearing masks in public places
- Practicing social distancing
- Frequent hand sanitization
- Not ignoring the symptoms as seasonal cold or cough
- Avoiding unnecessary exposure
- Avoiding being in heavily crowded areas
- Avoiding being around people who are visibly sick
Take home message - We are all very well aware of the devastation COVID has caused. COVID may present with a full spectrum of symptoms or may be asymptomatic. The infection may be severely impactful or may get better without experiencing much discomfort. Therefore, it is important to take precautions, stay vigilant and report to the doctor without delay in case of any COVID-like symptoms.
