There are no certainties in life and even the most well-thought-out plans do not always proceed as intended. One of the ways to financially safeguard your family against any eventualities is by purchasing a life insurance policy.

Having a suitable life insurance policy is a prudent financial choice. However, it is advisable to include the life insurance rider(#) of waiver of premium to your policy to ensure that it remains valid even if you fail to honour your premium payment obligations.

What is a waiver of premium rider(#)?

Since the validity of a life insurance policy is dependent on the regular payment of the premium by the policyholder, failure to do so can lead to the policy becoming lapsed. There can be several reasons why the policyholder may not be able to continue paying the premium for their life insurance policy, including a total or permanent disability or their death.

In this context, a waiver of premium rider(#) functions as a lifeguard for the concerned policy and ensures its continuation despite the discontinuation of the stream of premium payments. Therefore, adding the waiver of premium rider(#) to your life insurance policy ensures that even if you cannot pay the further instalments of the policy premium, the benefits of the policy shall stay intact.

As is the case with a majority of the riders(#) in a life insurance policy, the waiver of premium rider(#) also carries a cost but is reasonable in comparison with the added layer of security it provides the policyholder.

It is important to note that you can add a waiver of premium rider(#) to your policy if it is not already an in-built feature of said policy.

For instance, at Tata AIA Life Insurance, we offer waiver of premium rider(#), namely the Tata AIA Life Insurance Waiver of Premium Plus Rider(UIN-110B029V02).
