A pediatrician’s guide to choosing the right diaper: Here’s what works best!
1. Prioritize fit and comfort: Choose the right size; too small causes leaks and rashes, too big leads to discomfort. Opt for stretchable waistbands and soft edges to prevent irritation.
2. Cloth vs. Disposable: Cloth diapers are reusable and eco-friendly but require frequent washing, while disposable diapers are convenient and highly absorbent but may contain irritants. For sensitive skin, see point #5 below
3. Absorbency & leak protection: Select highly absorbent diapers with leak guards for heavy wetters and breathable materials to reduce moisture buildup and rashes
4. Preventing diaper rash: Change diapers frequently, use a barrier cream (zinc oxide), and allow diaper-free time daily to let the skin breathe
5. Safety & skin sensitivity: Avoid diapers with harsh chemicals, fragrances, or dyes, and switch brands if rashes persist
