With the ever increasing mobile phone usage and stress, people have forgotten doing the one basic thing to themselves.
To Rest! Properly!!
Yes, as much as your brain works the poor thing needs rest too. People often struggle to sleep and some actually wake up in the middle of the night. There are some specific sleep issues that I would like to share in medical terms and explain about them in common terms.
1. Difficulty falling asleep (initiation) : You get into bed, lie down, close your eyes, but not being able to sleep and thoughts lingering around, we've all been there
2. Difficulty to stay asleep (maintenance): You can start your sleep cycle but unable to continue it through out the night. Frequent awakenings and dreams keep you up at night.
3. Early morning awakening: You wake up at around 3 or 4 AM and can't go back to sleep no matter how hard you try and the sun rises on the horizon and you gotta hustle.
Coming to the topic in discussion, I will give you some tips to sleep better..
10 ways to sleep better...
1. Arise and Sleep at same time every day.
2. Try sleeping for the normal amount of time as you used to before the insomnia episodes.
3. Reduce alcohol, caffeine, nicotine and other stimulants especially during nights.
4. Avoid dozing off in the mornings (especially after 4PM).
5. Do physical exercises early in the day to relax your body through out the day (prepping in advance for a good night's sleep).
6. Avoid watching screens and other stimulating games etc.., Try radio, soulful music, podcasts, books etc..
7. Have 20min hot water baths or soaks before bedtime to raise body temperature.
8. Do meditation and mind relaxing exercises in the evening or night times.
9. Eat at regular time and avoid large fatty or oily meals at nights. (I know it's difficult, but you have to buddy!)
10. Make your bed comfortable, spray it with lavender or sandalwood (which should automatically condition your mind. When you smell sandalwood it should automatically remind you of sleeping and doze you off easily, this will take time to get used to), use comfortable pillows and bed spreads, change them regularly, don't clutter your bed with unnecessary things.
Hope this helps you to sleep well! But if not you can consult me and I can extend some professional help to you!
Cheers and Happy Sleeping :)
