🦷 What You’re Experiencing: Plaque and tartar can build up over time, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Once hardened into calculus, they cannot be removed by mouthwash or brushing alone. This buildup irritates the gums, leading to swelling, bleeding, bad breath, and gum infections (gingivitis or periodontitis). Prolonged use of chlorhexidine can cause tooth staining and may disturb the natural oral flora.
Next Steps
Visit a dentist for professional scaling and polishing. Based on gum condition, you may need deep cleaning (root planing) if gum pockets are present. Post-cleaning, a mouthwash can be prescribed for short-term use only. Your dentist will also guide you on proper brushing technique and hygiene maintenance.
Health Tips
Brush twice daily using the correct method (preferably with a soft-bristled brush). Use floss or interdental brushes daily. Do warm saline rinses (salt water) to soothe swollen gums. Add Vitamin C-rich foods to support gum healing. Visit your dentist every 6 months for a routine cleaning. With the right care and guidance, your gums will heal and stay healthy long-term. Don’t delay — early treatment prevents bigger problems.

Hello, I'm a gum specialist (Periodontist) 1. So prolonged use of Chlorhexidine is not advised as it can result in staining of teeth. 2. Plaque gets deposisted over a period of time which could turn into a HARD DEPOSIT Or TARTAR. This is the reason why you are having swollen gums and if this is left for a long period of time - could lead to infection in the gums and bone  loss around the teeth which is know as periodontitis. Treatment option : Get a professional ultrasonic scaling (cleaning) done from a gum specialist or a general dentist. If required get a deep Curettage/root planing done
Next Steps
Get a round of Scaling (cleaning) done. And consult a gum specialist.
Health Tips
Tip : Mouthwash and flossing is useful AFTER getting the process cleaning.

If your are using chlorhexidine mouth wash for longer time it can lead to staining your teeth. And also it will affect the natural flora which is the healthy bacteria present in your mouth which can also lead to affecting your gums. Get your teeth cleaned and polished first after that start using mouthwashes without chlorhexidine. I suggest to use hydrogen peroxide.
Next Steps
eat lot of citrus fruits and vegetables. use warm water to gargle after teethbrushing twice a day. use mouthwash after 30 mins of brushing.
Health Tips
get follow up treatment after  2-3 months...
