Not sure if you have needed other treatments for your chronic urticaria.
Please see a dermatologist to explore treatments with DMARD agents like Methotrexate etc and MABs like Omaluzimab which are available in Bangalore.
All the best.

You are 7 months postpartum, breastfeeding, and experiencing chronic urticaria requiring daily medication.
First clarification:
Montair usually contains:
• Montelukast (anti-allergic)
• Sometimes combined with Levocetirizine
✔ Is it safe during breastfeeding?
Yes — both montelukast and second-generation antihistamines (like levocetirizine or cetirizine) are considered safe during breastfeeding in standard doses.
They:
• Pass into breast milk in very small amounts
• Are unlikely to harm a healthy 7-month-old infant
Sedating antihistamines (like diphenhydramine) are avoided — but modern antihistamines are preferred.
⸻
Why is urticaria worse now?
Postpartum flare is common due to:
• Hormonal fluctuations
• Sleep deprivation
• Stress
• Immune system rebound after pregnancy
Since you’ve had urticaria since childhood, this is likely chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) with episodic flares.
This is immune-mediated — not infection.
Next Steps
✔ Step 1: Continue Safe Medication
Daily antihistamine use is acceptable in chronic urticaria.
If symptoms persist:
• Dose can be increased (under supervision)
• Add montelukast regularly if not already
• Consider vitamin D correction if low
⸻
✔ Step 2: Basic Evaluation (if not done recently)
• CBC
• ESR
• Thyroid profile (TSH, anti-TPO)
• Vitamin D
• Serum IgE (optional)
Postpartum thyroid changes can worsen urticaria.
⸻
✔ Step 3: When to Escalate
If:
• Daily hives despite regular antihistamine
• Angioedema (lip/eyelid swelling)
• Symptoms affecting sleep severely
Then treatment may require:
• High-dose antihistamines
• Omalizumab (if refractory)
This is still compatible with motherhood — do not panic.
Health Tips
✔ Chronic urticaria is not contagious
✔ It is rarely due to food allergy in adults
✔ Stress is a strong trigger
✔ Avoid frequent NSAIDs (they worsen hives)
✔ Keep skin cool; heat aggravates it
✔ Maintain good sleep hygiene
Most postpartum urticaria flares settle once hormones stabilize.
Since you are breastfeeding and symptomatic daily, proper dose adjustment is important rather than self-titration — an online consultation will allow structured control so you can stay comfortable while safely nursing your baby.

Dear Patient,
Chronic urticaria is due to an allergic tendency and can worsen after delivery because of hormonal changes stress and sleep disturbance. Montair is generally safe during breastfeeding when taken in recommended dose and only minimal amount passes into breast milk.
