Thyroid removed ( papillary cancer)
Thyroid was removed at age 20 (7 years ago) due to papillary cancer.After surgery biopsy report stated the complete removal of cancer . Taking a tablet for thyroid.TSH ok now.Is there a chance of reoccurance of cancer?

Thyroid cancer usually have good prognosis. Based on reports we need to see what stage u belonged to. For papillary carcinoma of thyroid if you have undergone total thyroidectomy , we do iodine scan to rule out metastasis. If the same is negative we keep u on follow up with thyroglobulin levels estimation and clinical examination. Since u have already had a disease free interval of 7 yrs kindly get a thyroglobulin level done Also try to share your reports of surgery If thyroglobulin is within normal limits the chance of recurrence is low.

Usually most of the recurrences occur in the first five yrs .so recurrence rate is less.

Get a recent boold test of serum thyroglobulin ..anti thyroglobulin antibodies .. Based on that value you may require radioiodine scan or petct.. Get ultrasound neck scan too..

Papillary thryoid very good cancer. Chance of recurrence is very very low. Don't worry
