Tetanus shot
Doctor, I got a sharp cut on the sole of my thumb from a rusty table today. There was no bleeding. I have cleaned it and applied antiseptic. I had one tetanus shot in 2024, but I’m not sure if I completed the full tetanus vaccination series before that. Am I adequately protected, or do I need another tetanus dose/complete the vaccination series because of this wound?

Yes. You should receive tetanus vaccine immediately, along with  passive protection.  Because an injury from a contaminated, rusty object is considered a high-risk, tetanus-prone wound. Wash the wound immediately with soap TDap injection on day 0, 1 month later and 6 months later ( this completes ur course, ensures long-term, full immunity against future exposure). Along with TDaP ,get TIG( tetanus immuno globulin) for immediate protection..... As TDaP will take time to produce antibodies. Tetanus is preventable with vaccination. Please don't delay. Get it done from local hospital ASAP. Otherwise tetanus infection has bad prognosis

Booster shot not needed as of now because a tetanus shot protects pretty well for 5 years. 1. Keep the wound clean and apply antiseptic cream. 2. If any other sign of inflammation occur consult me on practo app.

Since you received a tetanus shot in 2024 (less than 1 year ago), you are adequately protected for this wound — even for a tetanus-prone wound like a rusty cut, protection from a dose given within 5 years is sufficient. No immediate booster is needed right now.
Next Steps
Keep the wound clean, apply antiseptic (Betadine), and cover it. Watch for signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus). To ensure full long-term protection, check with your doctor if you've completed the 3-dose primary tetanus series. Consult me on Practo for any concerns.

Based on your history, the wound appears to be a superficial cut. Please wash it thoroughly with soap and running water, apply an antiseptic, and keep it clean and dry. Monitor for redness, swelling, pus, increasing pain, or fever, and seek medical attention if these occur. Regarding tetanus protection: If you completed the primary tetanus vaccination series (3 doses or more) and received a Td/Tdap booster in 2024, no additional tetanus injection is required for this injury. If you are uncertain whether you completed the primary series, you should receive a Td or Tdap vaccine nowand complete the remaining doses according to the catch-up schedule. If the wound is deep, contaminated, or considered high-risk, and your vaccination history is unknown or incomplete, you should be examined in person, as tetanus immunoglobulin (TIG) may also be required

Because your injury was caused by a rusty object and you're not sure whether you completed your tetanus vaccinations, it's a good idea to see a healthcare provider as soon as possible. In many cases, you'll need a tetanus booster, and your doctor can also determine whether you need to complete the full vaccination series. Why it's important A cut from a rusty or dirty object can increase the risk of tetanus, a serious infection caused by Clostridium tetani bacteria. The risk is higher with deep or contaminated wounds. If your vaccination history is uncertain, or you've had fewer than three tetanus vaccine doses, standard medical guidance usually recommends a tetanus booster for this type of wound. Depending on your vaccination history and the nature of the injury, your doctor may also recommend Tetanus Immune Globulin (TIG) for additional protection. What you should do next Visit a clinic or healthcare provider as soon as possible, ideally within 48 hours of the injury, so the wound can be assessed and you can receive the appropriate tetanus protection. If it turns out you never completed the primary tetanus vaccination series, ask your doctor about a catch-up schedule, which usually consists of three doses given over time. Continue to keep the wound clean by washing it gently with mild soap and water, applying an antiseptic or antibiotic ointment if advised, and covering it with a clean bandage. Watch for signs of infection Seek medical attention promptly if you notice: Increasing redness or swelling Warmth around the wound Pus or foul-smelling discharge Fever Worsening pain Getting the wound checked early and receiving the right tetanus protection is the best way to reduce the risk of complications.

You don't need another shot if it was taken in 2024. You are immunized for 5 years provided the vaccine had cent percent efficacy.

According to your complain, it seems you don’t need to go for Tetanus vaccination as you are already vaccinated in 2024 and it has 10 years of Tetanus immuno globulin immunity. For your Wound , you just need to clean with antiseptic for 2 days so it won’t cause any infection further.
Next Steps
Do not panic , you are already vaccinated enough for wound infection.
