Hello. Teeth Scaling and polishing is an absolute painless procedure.
The calculus (tartar and plaque) and stains, accumulated in your teeth, contains of numerous micro-organisms which are harmful. This Calculus and stains cannot be removed only by brushing, and need professional teeth cleaning, called as Scaling and polishing.
Dental scaling is routinely performed to help patients with gum disease and excessive plaque buildup. The saliva, bacteria, and proteins in your mouth form a thin layer that covers your teeth at almost all times. When you eat, tiny particles, acids, and sugars from the food stick to this film, creating a buildup on the teeth known as plaque. The bacteria that lives in this plaque can cause gum disease and tooth decay.
Dental scaling involves the careful removal of plaque bacteria from the toothâs surface and just below the gumline.
Scaling, not only removes the Calculus and Stains, but also keeps your gums healthy and firm, and also improves your overall oral health.

Hello
Teeth scaling is not painful. You might feel a little sensitivity at some areas, where more deposit (calculus) is present (especially on the back side of lower front teeth).
Teeth scaling is recommended to be done every 6 months. If you are regular with this, you will not feel any sensitivity or gum loosening after the session. But if you are getting it done after a long time, then more calculus deposit is expected, the Removal of which might lead to transient sensitivity but that can be taken care of by warm saline rinses and anti-sensitivity toothpaste.
Teeth scaling and cleaning are one and the same thing. Teeth cleaning is known as scaling and polishing/oral prophylaxis in dental terminology.
