The rough sensation your tongue is feeling could either be leftover tartar or the natural, unpolished surface of the teeth after calculus has been removed, which can temporarily feel strange to the tongue. • Schedule a Follow-Up: Return to your dentist for an evaluation. They can check if any tartar was missed or if you require a deep cleaning. • Ask for Root Planing: Request a procedure called scaling and root planing (deep cleaning), which specifically targets and removes calculus beneath the gum level. • Request Polishing: If the tartar is already gone but the teeth just feel rough, ask your dentist to polish the areas to make them smooth again. • Do Not Try to Scrape It Yourself: Avoid using any dental picks, toothpicks, or DIY tools at home to scrape the teeth or gums. This can permanently damage your enamel and severely injure your gum tissue. • Maintain Gentle Care: Keep brushing twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and floss daily to keep the area clean until your appointment, but do not scrub aggressively.
