You have to specify if the swelling is generalised or localised . If it is localised it may be due to and tooth decay forming an abscess if so you will have
Get antibiotic course and do root canal treatment and place a crown.

Is the swelling localized to any one tooth or entire left side is swollen? If it is localized is the associated tooth carious or had a history of that painful tooth? Then get a xray done!
Meanwhile rinse with warm salt water gargle and scaling done
