Hello, The symptoms you're describing — severe pain and swelling near the end of the jaw, difficulty in mouth opening, and swollen cheek lining — strongly suggest pericoronitis or infection due to an impacted wisdom tooth (usually the third molar). ✅ What It Could Be: Most likely cause: Impacted or partially erupted wisdom tooth causing infection and inflammation. This may lead to trismus (restricted mouth opening) and painful cheek swelling. Occasionally, jaw joint (TMJ) or deep tissue infection can also present similarly.
Next Steps
Get an OPG (full mouth X-ray) to evaluate the position of your third molar. Visit a dentist or oral surgeon for clinical examination. You may be prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines for initial infection control. Once pain and swelling reduce, wisdom tooth extraction may be advised if impaction is confirmed.
Health Tips
⚠️ Word of Caution: Do not force your mouth open — it may worsen pain or damage surrounding muscles. Avoid hot, spicy, or hard foods for now. Uncontrolled infection can spread to deeper spaces — do not delay evaluation. ✔️ Home Care Tips: Warm saline rinses (3–4 times a day). Cold compress on the outer jaw for swelling. Soft diet, avoid citrus fruits temporarily.
