Hello dear, If your mother is having suicidal ideation being on antidepressants following aspects will need assessment 1. Antidepressants started recently, antidepressants may take 2-4 week to show action.. hence if the period has been shorter then it would take some more time to show action. 2. Adjucant benzodiazepenes may ameliorate these symptoms in a shorter period of time 3. Use of psychological intervention (psychotherapy), a crisis intervention or an appropriate therapy should be of great help 4. If the suicidal ideation is strong, and suicidal risk is judged high clinically she may require a brief hospitalization. 5. Please be there with her, do not leave her alone for long 6. Remove all potential risk objects from the environment 7. Be assuring and talk calmly, listen to her and be supportive 8. Be on high alert when when she talks of death and suicide, these are red flag signs Hence my suggestion for you is to please seek further guidance from the treating psychiatrist. He should be able to judge these factors and make the best decision. Hope this helps you... Feel free to contact... Dr. Paramjeet Singh M.B.B.S., M.D. Psychiatry

Please do take an appointment with a psychological counselor in your city personally for her... She might probably, could speak her mind out to a person who can listen to her unconditionally...
