I am experiencing sudden, sharp pain on both sides of my back ribs. The pain is severe, around 8/10, and I do not have any other symptoms, and there is no pain while breathing.
Could this pain be caused by gas, acidity, muscle spasms, or some other problem? What could be the possible cause, and what should I do to get relief? Do I need any tests or a physical examination?
Please suggest what might be causing this pain and advise me on the next steps.
Thank you

Pain could be due to upper back muscles spasm .If the pain is severe,do consult a physician in your area for a clinical examination and appropriate treatment.
Pain this sudden and severe on both sides of your back ribs can come from a muscle spasm, costochondritis, or a flare of gas and acidity, as you suspected. The fact that it does not worsen with breathing is reassuring against a lung cause. But pain this severe still deserves an in-person check rather than guessing. A warm compress and rest can help if it turns out to be muscular.
