Sleeplessness
I had a problem with my sleeplessness earlier in 2013 . A psychiatrist prescribed me escitalopram.oxalate with a starting dose of 20mg , reduced to 10 mg later. I continued this for more than four years. He wasnt ready to keep me off this. Finally I reduced the dosage and gave it up on my own as this was getting stretched beyond limit. I could not be dependent on any medicines for getting stress out of my life. I have switched to yoga and running (although not very regularly) and have stopped smoking . Do I still need these medications , as I don't face any sleep issues now. Pls advise. Thanks so much!

Decision to start medication at that time could be because of need to correct depressive features presenting as insomnia. One needs to continue treatment for minimum 6-9 months as it's the usual course of maintainance management. If you are symptomatically better and following healthy lifestyle you need not start the medications now. However, considering the nature of illness which has chances of relapse in future you need to be watchful if signs of relapse like sleeplessness, low mood, irritability, difficulty concentrating etc. And consult a psychiatrist then.
