It is really important to crown a root canal treatment tooth because: 1. After a root canal treatment the pulp i.e the tissue giving life and nourishment to the tooth is removed thus the strength of the tooth is reduced considerably. 2. Depending on the extent of the decay , it will be removed during RCT after which the remaining sound tooth structure determines if it requires a filling or a crown etc. 3. The tooth can break when being subjected to stresses or forces of biting. 4. Leaving it open can cause micro leakage and reinfection hence a good filling atleast is required to maintain the seal. Coming to your pain , ideally after a RCT pain shouldnt be there. If pain is there it may indicate re-infection , remaining pulp tissue, missed canal etc which can only be estimated after an assessment.
Next Steps
Kindly get checked at the earliest.

Hi Please visit your dental surgeon for physical examination. For pain you can take pain killer as of now. After getting it checked and treated, get it replaced with a crown. After the root canal, the life of the tooth is removed (i.e pulp tissue) your tooth cannot take up extreme forces ,it ll become brittle and break, crown will act as shield and will give better life to your teeth after RTC. Hope your question is answered.
