If a food is processed and has preservatives, look for items that use more natural preservatives like salt, vinegar, sugar, citric acid or ascorbic acid.

Any Food having longer shelf life without preservatives can be be due to the packing materials like aluminum foil/ layers or sometimes nitrogen gas treatment is used to maintain the shelf life. So occasionally it can be consumed but on a regular basis any packed foods should be avoided.
