Restricted mouth opening
Hi, I have had an habit of chewing Rajnigandha (Pan Masala) and Tulsi (tobacco) for 6-7 years though I quitted tobacco in Feb this year but was still chewing pan masala. From 2-3 years I have been observing white patches in my mouth along with pigmentation and I am able to open my mouth till 2.5 fingers. I don't want to disclose this condition to my family as there will be chaos and mentally they will take too much tension so I need to know if this can be cured automatically with any changes in lifestyle and with the help of any medicines... if then then kindly help. Also I am a regular drinker so do I need to cut down on drinking also?? Kindly suggest.

Hello After reading your post, it is clear that you are well aware of your condition and what tobacco is doing to you. Restricted mouth opening is indicative of a condition known as Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF). White patches in mouth are again indicative of tobacco related conditions. All these are progressive and can ultimately lead to big problems. These require clinical examination followed by intervention, accompanied by habit quitting. You alone cannot manage them at home.
Next Steps
You can get in touch with me. I am an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon practicing in Delhi.
Health Tips
Don't go back on this path.
