Replacement of crowns
Hi Doctor, my question is if i replace my front 3 teeth crowns to 3M Lava Zirconia will i face speech problem, since at present im facing with metal crowns. Can issue be cleared? please suggest.

Not at all. Getting metal free crowns is best option for front teeth.

No way your speech will get affected. Visit your dentist. You will be guided on types of crowns, merits and demerits of each type, cost. Then you can choose accordingly.

Speech is a complex mechanism requiring the oral musculature and tongue to work in unison to produce the desired sound. If your earlier crowns are smaller or larger than they should be then definitely some vowels and consonants may sound different.. Going to a good doctor who would use either ultratransluscent crowns or Zirconia or E max, which are forms of metal free ceramics, and if the contours and edges and shape is perfectly balanced then ur speech would not be an issue.. If the edges of the crowns are too long then pronunciation of certain letters and words may become difficult irrespective of the material used.

The best way to test before the final crowns are fabricated is by using temporary crowns, it will also help in achieving a good smile line.

Newly introduced zirconia crowns have high esthetic quotient, always insist on temporary crowns and compare final prosthesis with same. it would not be a bad idea to wear temporary prototype for sometime to get acquainted with speech.

If your speech problem started after you have got metal crowns then it's the fault with metal crowns. Replacing it with another good crown with proper anatomy will solve the speech problem. There is no correlation between the material the crown is made of and your speech.

Consult a dentist and check with the cause for your speech problems if it happened after you got your metal crowns. If not consult a speech therapist to correct problems with your speech

Sometimes this speech problem would arise because you are not comfortable or physchologically haven't accepted that crown and still feeling it as a foreign material. Forgot the thing that you are waering some crown. It will solve the issue.

Oversized crowns can cause a problem in speech, no matter its a metal one or a Lava Zirconia. If the shape and size of the crown is optimal you should not face any problem with the speech. Visit a dentist and let him/her check the need for a new crown or anyother issue with your speech.

I can't believe you have metal crowns on your front teeth!!!!!! most likely you are talking about metal ceramic crowns..... nonetheless, speech is not affected by the material of the crown but by the design of the same.... you can get your crown replaced from a better Lab and feel the difference yourself..... look out for authorised milling centres of 3M to get the best possible work done..... if you still want to go for a better Lab then go for Dentcare lab of Kerala..... talk to your dentist about the same.....

Over contoured crowns definitely hinder with speech. In all ceramic if it is a crown even e max crowns are good option. They can be very well contoured using computer aided designing.

Speech is not related to any type of crown you have in your mouth.Speech is produced when tongue touches to different areas in your mouth and amount of air released. Anterior crowns do have role in speech for sounds like fun and v. But that also not affected by type of crown. Lava crowns which you are talking are beautiful for esthetic point of view. So feel free and go ahead for treatment and get esthetic smile.

Hi
If you are facing problems in speech with metal crowns , you will probably face the same with Zirconia crowns as well. Unless the metal crowns are very robust in structure and does not have proper anatomy.
I would recommend you to consult a speech therapist as well and before jumping into zirconia get thin temporary crowns fabricated for your teeth first and check your speech. If there is a difference then probably it's the crown that is at fault if still the speech problem persists then it's your speech problem and not the crown.
