Respected doctors
Today I fell down on the road and bruised my knee.
My last tetanus vaccine (normal tetanus vaccine + immunoglobulin, as prescribed for a dog bite) was taken in October 2024.
Do I need to take tetanus vaccine again today?
I have attached the picture of my bruise
Please let me know.

If your last tt shot was taken more then 5 years ago or if the wound was a dirty contaminated wound or any bite you might need a tt shot again
But none applies to you, your wound seems to be clean so just wound care is enough
No need to take tetanus again now. You already had vaccine in Oct 2024 → protection is present.
For simple bruise/abrasion: clean with water, apply antiseptic, keep it clean.
If wound is deep/dirty or not healing → then consult doctor.
• The image shows a superficial abrasion over the knee (road fall injury) — not a deep or contaminated wound
• You already received tetanus vaccine + immunoglobulin in Oct 2024
Next Steps
• Focus on local wound care (most important):
– Wash thoroughly with soap + running water for 5–10 minutes
– Apply antiseptic (povidone iodine)
– Cover with clean dressing
• You may use:
– Topical antibiotic ointment (if available)
Health Tips
• Change dressing daily
• Watch for infection signs:
– Increasing redness
– Swelling
– Pus
– Fever
• Avoid leaving wound open in dirty environment
It looks like a simple abrasion
Since your are properly vaccinated for dog bite in 2024
You dont need any vaccination now
Just clean the wound with water or antiseptic solution
Look for any signs of infection
Since your last tetanus shot was within the past 5 years, you won't need another dose today, as you are already protected even if the wound was slightly dirty. Wash the wound thoroughly with clean water and soap to remove all dirt. Apply a mild antiseptic like povidone iodine. watch for swelling, redness, or pus, which may indicate an infection.
