Psychiatrist or Psychologist
I've been feeling severely sad and overwhelmed, easily irritable, have been feeling suicidal too, should I consult a psychiatrist or a psychologist? I've never done this before and have not been diagnosed with anything.

Each mental health professional has their own role. I can see that you've been overwhelmed and are having vulnerable thoughts. It can be helpful to connect with a psychologist who can help you feel safe. The counselor can also equip you with appropriate coping resources. If the need arises, they can direct you to a psychiatrist who will help you in the form of medicines. I hope this helps.

Hi there, A detailed medical and psychiatric history is always needed for every patient. In addition, a detailed mental status examination is also recommended for every case to come for a diagnosis and its management accordingly. As per your description, You should consult a Psychiatrist first. You are likely to need some medications for some time and may need psychological interventions afterwards.
