Patella alta and PFPS. Dry needling
I have been diagnosed with patella alta and PFPS. Going to PT for past 3 and a half months. Pt did some manual therapy and strengthening exercises. I also do exercises at home.But no improvement in my symptoms. I have the same burning pain above my knee and little swelling above the knee. PT did 2 sessions of dry needling.But that makes the thigh area very sore and doesn't help to reduce my burning pain.I would like to know if dry needling helps patella alta and pfps? What should I do as part of PT to recover soon?How many sessions of dry needling is required?Any other way to recover from patella alta and PFPS? I am having this burning pain from last September. It gives me burning pain whenever I stretch my legs(while lying down) and bend( like sitting in a chair 90 degrees). I also feel the burning pain while standing for sometime. But no pain while walking.I also hear popping sound from the knee when I stand up after sitting and while walk after standing for sometime.what to do next?

Dry needling is an adjunct treatment, no the main one.PFPS can only be treated with strengthening and stretching exercises.

consult a new physiotherapist who values exercises rather than passive therapy

if MRI hasn't been done please do it, the provisional diagnosis is chondromalacia patellae which is completely treatable with physiotherapy

Ultrasound  may help instead  dry needling  on my opinion  learn strengthening  exercises  may help you

To me if you are experiencing burning pain at the front of your thigh it may be Bez of femoral nerve tension...which is put to a stretch in Ur sitting and worsen Ur symptoms...I advise you to do 1. Foam roller release of ITB(side of your thighs) 2. Stretching exercises for Ur groin muscles 3. Femoral nerve gliding exercise 4. VMO strengthening exercises

You should first stop dry needling if you are not comfortable with this. Take ultrasonic more over sore muscles it will reduce swelling, try light quads stretch it will improve knee flexibility. Hams stretch shud be avoid if you feel pain internal or back side of knee. It will aggravate your pain. Popping shows bone is rubbing inside . Do patellar mobilisation. Strong your VMO by diff strengthening exz.
