This picture shows it’s a case of Pericoronitis.
Pericoronitis - is an infection and swelling of the gum tissue around a partially erupted tooth, most often a wisdom tooth. It happens because a flap of gum tissue can trap food and bacteria, leading to pain, swelling, bad breath, and difficulty opening your mouth.
Partial eruption: A tooth, usually a wisdom tooth, only pushes partially through the gum and its same in your case as well.
This leaves a small flap of gum tissue (called an "operculum") over the chewing surface of the tooth.
The flap can easily trap food particles and bacteria, creating an ideal breeding ground for infection.
Symptoms:
•Pain and swelling in the gums around the tooth
•Redness and tenderness
•Pain when biting down
•Bad breath or a foul taste in the mouth
•Difficulty opening your jaw
•Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
You’re having what’s called Pericoronitis or simply put, your tooth does not have the space required for it to erupt and is stuck and as a result the area around it has become infected.
Next Steps
Get it checked out immediately, the doctor will put you on a course of antibiotics and the best course of action is to get it extracted.
Health Tips
Gargle with lukewarm saline water in the meantime to help with the pain.
Hello
This is the case of pericoronitis
This is usually due to the wisdom tooth infection
Please visit the dentist for the extraction of the wisdom tooth
The clinical picture reveals pericoronitis, which is inflammation around partially erupted wisdom tooth at the back.
Its not clear but the upper wisdom tooth appears to be buccally erupted ,ie placed towards cheek ,which is making it worse.
Wisdom teeth removal is recommended as there is insufficient space for full eruption and inaccessible for filling,
Next Steps
Visit Dentist for clinical &radiographic examination.
Health Tips
Warm saline gargle will ease pain in the interim and flush clean the area
Hello,
The last wisdom tooth seems to be the reason you have pain.
Kindly get an OPG (xray) to check the positioning of the tooth and get it extracted.
If the tooth has insufficient space, it will keep creating problems like pain, swelling, and cavities to other teeth.
Hi!
Your wisdom tooth seems to be erupting without enough space, causing pain and swelling.
An X-ray (IOPA/OPG) is needed to confirm the position. If space is insufficient, minor surgical extraction may be required. Till then, do warm salt-water rinses and maintain good oral hygiene.

You have pain due to tooth as well as gums . Tooth exerting pressure on adjacent tooth and infection present under gums covering the tooth. Extraction of the last tooth is necessary.
Dear, based on the picture you shared looks like your lower wisdom teeth has partially erupted at an angle and is covered by the gum partially. In this case there will be food accumulation in between the gum and the teeth leading to inflammation and infection around that area as seen in the picture. I recommend you to visit your nearest dental clinic at the earliestand take a full mouth and the area specific x-ray and go ahead for removal of the teeth as other it seems inaccessible for other treatment procedures, this also cause cheek biting injuries.
Health Tips
Maintain proper oral hygiene and keep that area clean
Pain and swelling in the last area of the mouth, especially if it feels like thereâs a small hole in the tooth above, often suggests either:
A decayed or infected wisdom tooth, or
Food lodgment and gum inflammation around the last molar (called pericoronitis).
If the tooth feels hollow or sensitive, it may have deep decay reaching the pulp (nerve), which can cause throbbing pain and swelling in the nearby gum or jaw.
What to do:
Rinse with warm salt water 2â3 times a day to reduce inflammation temporarily.
Avoid biting on that side until itâs checked.
A dental examination and X-ray are essential to confirm if the tooth needs a filling, root canal, or extraction (in case of wisdom tooth impaction).
Painkillers or antibiotics may give temporary relief, but without identifying the cause, symptoms usually recur. Early treatment prevents spread of infection or swelling into the jaw or cheek area.
Hello
The pain is due to improper wisdom tooth eruption
The tooth does not have enough space to come out
If repeatedly happening then better to get it extracted
