Pain behind the knee for years
I have been suffering from pain behind my knees for many years now. It comes and goes on its own but while it is there, it is uncomfortable and distracting and painful sometimes. It is worse when I have to fully straighten my leg. I sleep with a pillow below my knee because of this. It feels better after a few stretches when the knee makes a popping sound. Could you help me understand what is it? And if it is serious? What should be the solution to it? P.S. I am a petite girl so my weight is also in check and not burdening my knee.

Knee examination required. May be an MRI based on your complaints. You need to visit an orthopaedic surgeon for the same. Simple history wont suffice to treat adequately.

Hello, there are few more details required but there can be a couple of reasons why you may have that problem, usually pain at the back of the knee, while straightening out and relief after popping sound might come from an old injury ( twisting injury) you may have had to the knee or its internal structures or it may be what is termed as internal derangement of the knee. You must diagnose the problem and treat it.
Next Steps
Consult an orthopaedic knee specialist for examination and investigations to get problem specific treatment.

Hi, Posterior knee pain can be because of tendinopathy or strain of muscle. Less likely it can be because of other ligament or meniscus injury.
Next Steps
Consult us or any orthopaedic doctor for detailed evaluation.
