A BMD of-3.4 indicates severe osteoporosis. Which in turn means she's at a very high risk of fractures even with trivial injuries. This needs to be addressed at the earliest. Osteoporosis at 81 is more likely senile osteoporosis and respond better to terriperatide than to bisphosphonate injections. Though the final decision has to be made after a through evaluation eliminating secondary causes of osteoporosis like steroid intake(commonly seen in asthma treatment) etc
Next Steps
please consult your own orthopaedic surgeon for detailed work up or consult online to ascertain the cause of osteoporosis and have her started on relevant treatment
Health Tips
please ensure a enviornment at home which reduces risk of fall as she will be very prone for fractures even with trivial injuries ,like anti skid tiles, converging up all slippery surfaces, railings or support in bathrooms etc
