So i am taking escitalopram 20mg and clonazapeam .5mg from last 6months and i am taking both meds in splitting 10mg and .25 in morning and rest at night.
So i want to taper off these meds very slowly specially clonazapeam with hyperbolic taper plan. So if any psychiatrist is aware of this taper plan and can help me with tapering meds with this plan so please tell me. I want online consultation.
Thanks

Thank you for reaching out. It is encouraging that you are taking a thoughtful and informed approach to medication tapering, especially with benzodiazepines like clonazepam, which require careful planning due to the risk of withdrawal symptoms.
A hyperbolic tapering plan is indeed a valid strategy, where the dose is reduced in progressively smaller fractions to minimize withdrawal effects. For clonazepam, this often involves reducing the dose by about 5–10% every 2–4 weeks, depending on individual tolerance. Liquid formulations or compounding methods may be required for precision at lower doses.
Regarding escitalopram, tapering can generally be a bit quicker, but should still be done gradually to prevent SSRI discontinuation syndrome. A common schedule might involve reducing the dose by 25% every 2-4 weeks, again adjusted per symptoms.
Next Steps
Schedule an online or in-person consultation with a psychiatrist experienced in medication tapering.
2. Discuss the feasibility of liquid preparations or compounded doses to aid precision in tapering.
3. Maintain a symptom diary to monitor withdrawal or relapse indicators.
4. Ensure psychological support (e.g., CBT or supportive therapy) is available during the tapering process.
Health Tips
Avoid abrupt discontinuation of either medication.
Withdrawal symptoms may mimic relapse; a slow taper under supervision helps differentiate this.
Nutrition, sleep, and stress management play crucial roles during tapering.
Yes, can certainly help you with tapering of the medicines but before tapering needs to assess your history and for which condition are you taking, your current status and for how long you have been mantaining well
Next Steps
Should book a consult
Health Tips
Donât taper on your own because it can lead to adverse wffects
If you want to adjust the dose or taper it off completely, consult your psychiatrist because on the basis of improvement in symptoms, medications will be adjusted very slowly
Most definitely. The medicines can be tapered. But before that a detailed evaluation and history needs to be taken to make sure it is the right time to taper off these medicines. Would be happy to help in case you want to consult.
