So my mom is 48 years old and is struggling with a lot of panic and mild depression. Her psychiatrist prescribed her escitalopram 5mg as the treatment. She'd need to take it around 9 months to an year but I'm really scared about If she'd be able to come off of it. Can someone please tell me if people do come off of it and how? It'd be of great help.

Hi.. escitalopram 5 mg is a very mild dose . Your mother may need an increase of the dose for her symptoms to come down. Once she is in remission after using the medicines for about 6 months, then slow tapering can be done. Don't worry about taking the medicines.
Escitalopram is a safe drug. 5mg is very less dose. If she is improving on that dose, you can continue. Look at symptom improvement rather than how and when she would come off the medicine.
Coming off it isn’t the concern and would happen gradually. Completion of treatment is important. Remember anxiety/panic and depression symptoms recovery is why it was started.
