Neck pain and weightlifting
I have neck pain on left side since an year. This neck pain especially when I sleep on thick pillow, also during my work hours in front of laptop and when I lift weight with left hand. I also develop left side headache at the base of skull radiating towards front sometimes. I have two questions regarding this- 1. Is this symptom of postural or degenerative diseases 2. Can I join gym and do weightlifting to strengthen neck muscle? Can this resolve the issue? My HbA1c is 8.5 and triglycerides are 270, is there any risk associated joining th le gym?

Hello. Thank you for such an elaborate summary. Neck pain which are since long are mainly due to degenerative changes happening at your neck. Causes includes bad posture while working, genetics and others. In your case I think it’s a bad posture while working plus unassisted lifting weights. Depend upon the info you have given I think you are suffering from cervical radiculopathy. Since it’s a long condition I will suggest you do to on MRI before doing anything else. 2. I will suggest you to avoid gym for now until we find out the cause of your pain. 3. HBa1C is too high for a 35 year old guy. I will suggest you to get fit and control you sugar level after consulting with a good physician near by you. Though it’s not indirectly related to gym but avoid strenuous exercises for now. Get it control with diet.
Next Steps
Consult a Spine surgeon near you and do an MRI Cervival Spine or an xray at least
Health Tips
Avoid forward bending of neck, hanging arms and lifting weights Intermittent rest while working.
