My 14 year old son fell last weekend hard on his but in a basketball game. It is now only marginally better. My brother-in-law is a chiropractor and he did an X-ray. My son's coccyx was bent almost 90 degrees. My brother in law said to give it another week and if it doesn't start to get better, see another doctor. Can this hurt his future growth or cause any other issues? Should anything else be done? Thanks.

The coccyx, while considered vestigial(i.e of no functional use)in humans, does have a few important functions ,but if giving too much of trouble including pain on sitting, may be removed surgically.
Next Steps
Give anti inflammatory drugs regularly for 5 days, but if no relief, consult an orthopeadic surgeon.
